Private Practice Opportunity

The Community Counselling Centre is currently looking for a new team member!

We offer a supportive and casual contractor arrangement with shared work spaces, collective participation in office duties, and opportunities for collaboration with a friendly and relationship-focused team. We are in search of a therapist looking to work 15+ hours per week out of our convenient location on 124th street. Our preferred applicant would be someone who holds an MSW, RSW, or Registered Psychologist designation.

We try to ensure that a relational, client-focused, and trauma-informed approach is emphasized in all of the work we do, and we assign new intakes based on the needs, preferences, and availability of both clients and therapists. We seek to integrate both psychological and spiritual approaches into the healing process, and would be looking for a team member who can work inclusively and sensitively with all faith and spiritual orientations. We also operate using a sliding scale fee system, which allows clients to access counselling support at a reasonable rate, to reduce the financial barriers that often prevent people from reaching out for help.

If you think you might be a good fit for our team, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we would be happy to provide additional details and answer any questions you may have.

Practicum Students Program

The opportunity to integrate personal, theoretical and spiritual learning into effective clinical practice.

The Community Counselling Centre provides a practicum experience for students in the Master of Psychotherapy and Spirituality (MPS) program at St. Stephen’s College, Edmonton, Alberta. We also consider students from other graduate counselling programs. This practicum is based on an adult learning model in which the student’s personal and professional experience is recognized as being essential to her or his or their learning process.

Counselling students are expected to be proactive in identifying and achieving their learning goals. We encourage students to be forthright in identifying their learning needs and objectives.

You may initiate the process of consideration by submitting your CV. We may then ask you to submit an application form.  If all prerequisites are met, the applicant is then interviewed by CCC directors / practicum supervisors.

Counselling Experience

Practicum students have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients presenting the full range of personal concerns. Through experience and supervision, interns learn the following:

  • How to initiate and maintain a therapeutic relationship
  • The use of self in the counselling process
  • Practical application of counselling theory
  • Administrative skills

Counselling Supervision

Practicum students are provided with individual supervision at an average ratio of one hour of supervision to every five hours of client time. Their supervisor will encourage them to pursue their their on-going integration of theory and practice. They are encouraged to take responsibility for personal issues that impact their learning and counselling practice. The Community Counselling Centre provides an environment that emphasizes reflection on lived experience to facilitate this integrative process.

Our supervisors hold the following designations: RSW MSW, Registered Marriage & Family Therapist, Certified Psychotherapist and Certified Pastoral Counsellor.

Practicum students participate in Case Conference (group supervision) with seasoned counsellors where clinical work is presented. In this collegial setting input is provided for the enhancement of quality counselling and for peer support.

The Community Counselling Centre is a private practice setting and our practicum students have the opportunity to learn some of the skills involved in running a private practice counselling office. Practicum students will contribute non-client hours to the operations of the agency.

Students are required to be in the process of their own therapy while seeing clients. Students are expected to have flexible availability for seeing clients and receiving supervision on-site and online.

The upcoming Practicum dates are as follows:

May 2024 Practicum CV submission deadline is August 15, 2023.

September 2024 Practicum CV submission deadline is December 15, 2023.
